O’Sheng’s favorite possession is a worn photograph of his parents. Seven years ago, when O’Sheng was just a baby, his parents left him with his aunty in Mae Sod to travel to Bangkok in the hope of making enough money to pay for his cleft lip and cleft palate operation. Although his parents worked seven days a week they still hadn’t saved enough money for O’Sheng’s operation.
O’Sheng had no friends and no self esteem. Unable to speak normally, he rarely spoke for fear of being teased and called mean names like “split lip.”
When O’Sheng’s mother found out about Operation Smile coming to Mae Sod, their hometown in Tak, she was overjoyed. O’Sheng’s aunt took him to the mission site and patiently waited for his medical evaluation. O’Sheng was chosen for surgery and now has a beautiful new smile.
