20th Years of bringing Smiles by Operation Smile in Thailand more than 12,000 treatments for children born with facial deformities
Operation Smile Thailand celebrated its 20th year of helping to change the lives of patients born with facial deformities. Since the operation was set, it has provided more than 12,000 treatments.
To celebrate this great accomplishment and publicly thank the generous supporters and friends, Operation Smile Thailand, organized “A Night of Smiles” at the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park hotel on August 17, 2017. The event was presided over by Mr. Kevin J. Beauvais, Chairman of Operation Smile Thailand and CEO of InVision Hospitality, and Honorary Chairman, Mr. Anand Panyarachun, former Prime Minister of Thailand.
“There is, however, still a lot more work to be done and I hope you will continue to support Operation Smile Thailand in their mission to provide every single child access to this safe life-changing surgical care. While we have scaled the tip of the iceberg in providing reconstructive surgeries for these children, what lies beneath the surface is the larger, long-term and sustainable solution”, said Mr. Anand Panyarachun, Honorary Chairman.
Awards of Honor were presented to following businesses and philanthropic organizations that have given substantial and sustained support over the year:
1. Benchachinda Holding Co., Ltd.
2. Charoen Pokphand Group and TRUE Corporation Public Company Limited
3. Dusit International
4. Kids Action for Kids
5. Sika (Thailand) Ltd.
The executives who received the awards on behalf of their organizations were Mr. Vichai Bencharongkul, President of Benchachinda Holding Co., Ltd., Mr. Suphachai Chearavanont, Chief Executive Officer of Charoen Pokphand Group and Chairman of the Executive Committees of TRUE Corporation Public Company Limited, Khun Ravisada Angkeeros, Vice President – Corporate Communications of Dusit International, Mrs. Torgunn Aas Reggestad, Executive Board Director and Secretary of the board of Kids Action for Kids and Mr. Roland Wider, Managing Director of Sika (Thailand) Ltd. The generous support by these five organizations of our fundraising activities has helped create smiles and promising futures for numerous children.
Operation Smile is a non-profit medical charity founded in the United States in 1982 by Dr. William Magee and his spouse, Kathy Magee, with the aim to provide safe surgeries to underprivileged children and young adults at no cost to address facial deformities such as cleft lip, cleft palate and burns. This objective has taken Operation Smile around the world. It now has a presence in more than 60 countries.
The first medical mission in Thailand was undertaken in 1997, and, in 2001, Operation Smile Thailand was registered and established as an official Thai charitable medical foundation to provide help to indigent patients in remote rural areas across Thailand. In Thailand, 1 in every 700 babies born has a cleft deformity. Owing to the tireless devotion of medical volunteers, non-medical volunteers and staff, the foundation has treated patients from Thailand and neighboring countries
In addition to surgical care, Operation Smile provides NAM procedures, post-operative therapy and speech camps, as well as education and training for medical volunteers and foundation staff.
The 20-year achievement of Operation Smile Thailand is an important accomplishment and demonstrates the organization’s commitment to the country, by helping children grow up healthy and strong so they can become engaged members of the Thai society and help contribute to its future success.
Everyone can become a part of this life-changing experience by volunteering and donating to Operation Smile Thailand.
